Torino Esposizioni
The Turin Exhibition Complex, a significant example of rationalist architecture between the two wars, a concentration of architectural history, culture, and structural innovation, was created in 1937 as the “Palazzo della Moda” designed by Arch. Ettore Sottsass; over the years, under the care of highly skilled designers such as Roberto Biscaretti di Ruffia, Pier Luigi Nervi, and Riccardo Morandi, it underwent several transformations until becoming an architectural structure known worldwide as an exceptional example of structural engineering. The Sottsass-Nervi Complex stands in the southern part of Valentino Park between Corso Raffaello and Via Petrarca. The complex consists of three main sections: the circular restaurant (the current Rotonda), the actual exhibition hall, and the theater. The new Civic Library and the restoration of the Po River’s connecting function represent the “core” interventions for completing Turin’s cultural system, thus assigning the site the role of the city’s second attraction hub alongside the Egyptian Museum, while simultaneously reinforcing its local vocation as a community service: a symbolic place, cultural and tourist attraction, open to citizens where they can meet, have new experiences, learn, read, and discover.
